Lync 2013 Install Step by Step – Part 1

Lync 2013 Install Step by Step – Part 1

After Windows Server 2012 has shipped I took the opportunity to rebuild my lab and once again and install all the 'wave 15'  or 2013 versions of all the core enterprise products so I can blog about the process.   I have ran through the process for Exchange 2013 and SharePoint 2013 so it is now on to the installation of Lync 2013 Preview......

My environment is Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (RTM) VMs with the following servers:

2012-LAB-DC1.2012lab.local Domain Controller and Certification Authority
2012-LAB-LFE1.2012lab.local Lync 2013 Front End Server
2012-LAB-OWA1.2012lab.local Office Web Apps Server

I will start by preparing my server 2012-LAB-LFE1.2012lab.local

Add-WindowsFeature Web-Server, Web-Static-Content, Web-Default-Doc, Web-Scripting-Tools, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-Asp-Net, Web-Log-Libraries, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Default-Doc, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Net-Ext, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Filtering, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Mgmt-Console, Desktop-Experience, Windows-Identity-Foundation

Will need these installed if you need to prepare AD from Lync Server

Install-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS

So lets insert the install media and let setup run, we will get told that we need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 11 x64

Just a heads up: take a look at your proposed server configuration and the first step in the guide… I think you might find a mismatch… 😉
